Bublous (2022)

Vinyl, Steel, Copper

60 x 60 x 60cm

Bulbous steps away from the idea of incorporating hugs into mundane interactions and instead focuses on the issue of those who are wanting to receive touch. My hug-focused projects placed the onus on the user to initiate the sensory interactions, rather than allowing them to act as passive recipients. This project would explore the other side of the coin.

Bulbous provides this sense of comfort and security by squeezing the user through an inflatable membrane. The wearable device slips on and is plugged into an air compressor. Through a flip of a switch, the bag starts to inflate and the body is gently squeezed.
